Sound Tracks

OK, this is mindless, but I am on vacation.

How much does the soundtrack make the movie? I am a big fan of the sound track full of actual songs. Here is a quick list of movies that I enjoyed MORE because of the sound track.

Notting Hill
Forest Gump
O Brother Where Art Thou
Dan in Real Life
Juno

Others in your list?

Not actual songs, but a few with instrumental music I found...um...instrumental to the movie's experience:

- Star Wars
- Glory
- Jurassic Park
- The Mission

SW and JP make special sense, as John Williams, who wrote the music for both, is a big user of Wagner's ideas of leitmotif, wherein characters and themes have musical passages of their own that recur with them. The music thus emphasizes the action on screen.

Reality Bites
Beautiful Girls
200 Cigarettes
Cruel Intentions
Rushmore
The Big Chill (I never go to a funeral without thinking of "You Can't Always Get What You Want")
